HMC Fellow first UK-based researcher to win prestigious award
Professor Emilio Martínez-Pañeda first UK-based researcher to win prestigious award
Professor Emilio Martínez-Pañeda, Supernumerary Fellow and Tutor at Harris Manchester College and Associate Professor in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, has won three prizes for his work, including the prestigious John Argyris Award for Young Scientists.
The biannual John Argyris Award, given by the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM), highlights outstanding achievements in computational mechanics by young researchers. Professor Martínez-Pañeda, the first ever UK-based researcher to receive the award, was recognised for his groundbreaking work in tackling material degradation challenges holding back the energy transition.
In addition to the John Argyris Award, Professor Martínez-Pañeda – who leads the University of Oxford’s Mechanics of Materials Lab – has recently won two other prizes: the Olgierd Cecil Zienkiewicz Young Investigator Award given by the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS) and the Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom’s Emerging Talent Award.
