Trinity Term 2021
The Library is open to HMC members Monday-Sunday, 9am-10pm. If the front door to College is closed, access is via the Navapan Gate and Tate Quad Door.
Kate (9am-5pm) and Niall (10am-2.30pm) are here during weekdays to help you get the material that you need, whether you are here in Oxford or further afield.
The Library will be closed from 5pm Friday 30th July to 8am Wednesday 1st September.
Study Spaces
There are currently 20 study desks and 2 PCs available in the Library.
All study space must be booked in advance via Bookings
Sessions are 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm, and 5pm-10pm.
Consecutive sessions may be booked and your items left over lunch, but all belongings must be removed at the end of the day.
Covid-secure measures
Study spaces are socially distanced and signs on desks will indicate which may be used. The downstairs bay desks are not available in order to facilitate browsing in those areas
To ensure that we comply with Covid-secure workspace rules, everyone in the Library must:
-
Wear a mask at all times, unless exempt
-
Clean their study space when they start and when they finish
-
Wipe the self-service machine in advance of using it and once finished
The Library will also be fully ventilated (open windows) so do wear layers if it is cool outside.
A deep clean of the space will be undertaken before the Library opens but during the day it is important that you clean the space and equipment you use, wear a mask and wash your hands regularly.
Browsing and Borrowing
The shelves are open to browse and books can be issued at the Self-Issue machine or at the staff desk. Return books to the trolley outside the library door.
Click and Collect
Request books via SOLO and collect from outside the library. We will arrange collection or delivery with you directly with those outwith Oxford.
Scan and Send
Email library@hmc.ox.ac.uk or contact Kate or Niall.
We can send book chapters and articles to you but only up to 10% of the item or one chapter.
Postal loans
Request books via SOLO. We will send books to your (UK and EU) address if the book is not available electronically, you require the book for a substantial period, and scan and deliver isn’t appropriate.
Book purchases
Email library@hmc.ox.ac.uk or contact Kate or Niall.
We can order material that we don’t have in the Library that is of general interest and send it to your address. We can also order you books from your college book fund.
Advice and support for finding material
Email library@hmc.ox.ac.uk or contact Kate or Niall via email or team chat or video. We’re happy to help you try to find whether books or articles are online and/or suggest ways of getting hold of them.
In addition to what we can offer in college, the Bodleian libraries are also offering a range of services including Click and Collect from some lending libraries, Scan and Deliver and Special Collections mediated copying.
Please see the Bodleian Libraries website for details of library openings. You will similarly need to book via Spacefinder
The Bodleian is also providing a Live Chat service which can answer queries about finding material and the services the central libraries are offering.
Access to enhanced online resources has also been reintroduced. Access to millions of e-books via the Hathi Trust are available once again either on SOLO or via the Hathi Trust website (sign-in).
Be aware that if something is available via the Hathi Trust you are not able to request it via click and collect on SOLO. In these cases, just email library@hmc.ox.ac.uk or Kate/Niall and we’ll get it for you.
Remember, if you get stuck or are finding it difficult, please do just drop us an email (library@hmc.ox.ac.uk) or contact Kate or Niall on Teams (chat or video) and we’ll try to help you get what you need.
